Hey Fans!

One of our favorite tools in capturing a wedding day is Super8mm film.

It’s retro, nostalgic, and captures a vibe that digital video can never match.

And while most of our films feature it as an accent to create variety in the storytelling, there are some couples who love it so much that it’s the ONLY thing they want.

Ana & Marco are one of those couples.

From Twitter to the Mission Inn

Let’s start with the fact that Ana and Marco met on Twitter.

Because if you’re going to begin a love story in the modern world, you might as well begin it somewhere as wonderfully random as that.

Eventually, that Twitter connection became a relationship, and that relationship eventually brought them to the Mission Inn in Riverside for their wedding day.

The setting couldn’t have been more different from where their story began.

The Mission Inn is one of Riverside’s most recognizable historic landmarks, a sprawling architectural landmark that developed over decades from the Miller family’s early guesthouse. Major construction began with the Mission Wing in 1903, and subsequent additions transformed the property into the elaborate collection of towers, courtyards, arches, gardens, stairways, and architectural details that visitors recognize today.

The building’s Mission and Spanish Colonial Revival influences gave us an incredible canvas for Super8.

And because Super8 already carries a sense of history and nostalgia, the two seemed made for each other.

A Wedding That Felt Like Ana and Marco

During our style session, Ana described the wedding film she wanted almost like she was describing a movie.

Not a thriller.

A romcom.

Cute. Fun. Silly. Energetic. A little serious when it needed to be.

She wanted to feel nostalgic when she watched the finished film. She wanted to admire the day. She wanted to feel happy and excited. She wanted the film to bring back the playful, quirky energy of the wedding.

That became our north star.

Instead of trying to make the wedding fit a predetermined cinematic style, we built the film around their personalities.

That distinction matters.

Because the best wedding films aren’t necessarily the ones with the most elaborate shots.

They’re the ones where the style feels like the couple.

Mariachi, Banda, Family, and Tradition

Ana and Marco’s wedding wasn’t just visually distinctive. It was packed to the brim with cultural tradition and flavor.

Immediately after the ceremony, the entire wedding party and guest group came together for a massive group photo while a mariachi band played.

It was one of those moments that could have easily become a simple logistical part of the wedding day.

Instead, it became part of the celebration.

Later, the mariachi and Banda music helped shift the reception into party mode.

There were family and friends packed onto the dance floor.

And there was a wedding cake that Ana considered important enough that we knew we needed to give it some attention.

These weren’t details we wanted to simply check off a shot list.

They were pieces of the story.

Why Super8 Worked So Well for This Wedding

There’s a reason Super8 continues to resonate with couples who want something different from a conventional wedding video.

It has texture.

It has movement.

It has imperfections.

It doesn’t look like a commercial.

It doesn’t feel like a security camera captured your wedding in 4K.

It feels like a memory.

And for Ana and Marco, that mattered.

They wanted nostalgia.

They wanted the film to feel happy and playful.

They wanted something that could bring them back to the day.

The Mission Inn’s historic architecture amplified that feeling.

The mariachi and Banda brought energy.

The Catholic traditions brought depth.

Their families brought emotion.

Their quirks brought personality.

And Super8 tied everything together.

A Wedding Film That Belongs to Them

At FilmLife, we don’t believe every couple needs the same wedding film.

Your film should be built around the way you actually experience your life together.

Maybe you’re adventurous.

Maybe you’re wildly romantic.

Maybe you’re the couple who spends every weekend on the couch.

Maybe you met on Twitter.

Maybe your dog is basically your third family member.

Maybe you want a film that feels elegant.

Maybe you want something weird.

Maybe you want both.

Ana and Marco wanted nostalgia, energy, romance, humor, family, culture, and a little bit of beautiful chaos.

So that’s what we chased.

Not a generic wedding video.

Their wedding film.

And we think that’s the difference between simply documenting a wedding and telling a story.

If you’re planning your own wedding and want a film that feels like you rather than a copy of someone else’s wedding video, get in touch with FilmLife.
